全長59km的攀田高速總投資26.8億元，起于攀枝花市金江鎮，北接西攀高速，止于平地鎮田房村（攀枝花與云南交界處），南接云南省境內的永仁至昆明高等級公路，全線采用四車道的高速公路標準建設，設計時速為80km。通車后，攀枝花金江至云南永仁田房通行時間將由原來的2.5小時縮短至0.5小時。
攀田高速是國家高速公路網規劃的首都放射線之一——京昆高速的重要一段，也是四川省著力完善的出川通道之一。
隨著攀田高速的貫通，加上已通車的成雅高速、瀘黃高速、西攀高速和2012年4月28日正式投入運營的雅西高速，從成都往南經雅安、攀枝花實現“高速”出川，全長近700km，成都前往西、攀兩地的車程也分別縮短到4小時和6小時，節省了一半以上的時間。
